1990 Solo 1 National Championships, Salina, Kansas, First Place Formula Vee....(Listed in SCCA Solo Rule book as National Champion for 1990)........1978 Albatros photo by Steve Quam. This car ran the 1200 engine that had been built new in 1988 and used a season in the Zink C4. This car was purchased from Norm Mooney, who repaired it from a racing accident of the builder, Ray Kuehlthau of Indianapolis. (worked for and Indy car team for some years) The builder is a very skilled engineer and craftsman. Most of the body is hand formed aluminum, with several unique designs such as air intake using frame, and many things having dual purpose for saving weight and aero designs. Regretably, I had to raise the rollbar in 1991 for safety issues, and breakup the smooth body shape. When rollbar updated, shift location changed, never worked well for downshifting. 2012 had Michael LeVeque change shift location and good lockout for reverse.
